Common kitchen

Equipment in KI Housing corridors

About half of the rooms that we dispose over are located in corridors where all tenants rent their rooms from KI Housing. In these corridors we supply basic kitchen equipment. Every student has one cupboard, one shelf in the fridge and half a shelf in the freezer. The average monthly rent for a room in a KI Housing corridor is SEK 3380 (from September 1, 2012).

Equipment in SSSB corridors

Other rooms are located in corridors where tenants share the kitchen with students who rent their rooms directly from the landlord SSSB or from other universities. If you rent a room in a SSSB corridor you might need to buy your own kitchen utensils (sometimes there are some utensils left from earlier students that you may use). Every student has one cupboard, one shelf in the fridge and half a shelf in the freezer. The monthly rent for a room in a SSSB corridor is SEK 3225 (from September 1st, 2012).

Regulations

The kitchen door should always be locked.
Personal equipment and food should be kept in the assigned storage spaces.
Never pour cooking oil down the kitchen drains, as they will clog the pipes.
Each tenant is responsible for keeping the kitchen and corridor clean and tidy.

Furniture and other equipment in the room
Each room is furnished with a bed, a desk, a bookshelf, a chair, a small table and two lamps, each room has its own toilet/shower room. The room is equipped with mattress, pillow and blanket. Please note that you need to bring your own towels and bed linen.
Deficiencies regarding the inventory should be reported to the house caretaker. Damaged and/or missing items will be replaced and charged to the tenant.

Electronic key system
The communal areas (e.g. the laundry-room and entrance) are fitted with electronic keys for a safer living environment and to reduce the risk of vandalism. All use of electronic keys is registered and SSSB may make use of this information in connection with acts of e.g. vandalism in the property. We can also block a key in case you lose it, thereby preventing unauthorised entry. Each electronic key is personal and directly linked to the apartment. Never exchange keys with your neighbour or lend one to someone not authorised to use it since you will be held responsible should anything happen.

Garbage disposal
The garbage facilities are found in a separate house on the side of the parking lot. There are two rooms, one for household garbage and one for bulky garbage. There is a recycling station for glass, metal, newspapers and cardboards outside of the garbage facilities.

Household garbage should be thrown in tightly sealed plastic bags.

Home insurance

We strongly advise you to take out a home insurance for your stay in Stockholm. If anything is stolen from your room, or if any property is damaged or lost during your rental period, you are responsible for covering the repair or replacement costs.

We have an agreement with insurance company Länsförsäkringar. They accept home insurance applications also from students without a Swedish personal number. The minimum time you can pay for is 6 months and the approximate charge for this period is SEK 250 - 400, dependeing on where you stay. Application forms are available at the KI Housing office by emailing info@kihousng.se.

Smoke detector

An automatic smoke detector is installed in all rooms. Remember to check the batteries regularly!

Precautions against fire

Every single room, common kitchen and/or common corridor is a separate fire cell. To prevent spreading possible smoke/fire all doors must be kept closed. It is the responsibility of every tenant to see to that the doors are kept closed between the different areas.

It is important not to store inflammable material such as “paper collections” in common areas (kitchen, corridors or stairwells).

In case of fire the corridor and stairwell might be full of smoke and at that time you do not want to trip over bikes, shoes etc. The evacuation roads must be free of objects. Generally to evacuate the building, use the staircase.
