Who can apply - Karolinska Institutet

We have a high demand for housing and are therefore unable to offer accommodation to all our applicants.

Our rooms and apartments are foremost intended for international students and researchers coming through central agreements and certain exchange programs.

Other international students and researchers will only be offered accommodation in case of vacancies.

Guest researchers with a doctoral degree and Post Docs

Eligible to apply for apartments and student rooms in all areas.

PhD students centrally accepted within programs and other agreements between Karolinska Institutet and foreign universities.

Eligible to apply for apartments and student rooms in all areas.

Foreign undergraduate students centrally accepted to an exchange program through the International Student Department at Karolinska Institutet

Eligible to apply for the student rooms at Strix (Armégatan), Pax (Emmylundsvägen) and Jägargatan.

Master students from outside Europe, centrally accepted through the International Student Department at Karolinska Institutet and Master students centrally accepted within an exchange program.

Eligible to apply for the student rooms at Strix (Armégatan), Pax (Emmylundsvägen) and Jägargatan.

Other international students and researchers

Eligible to apply for student rooms at Jägargatan, but will be offered accommodation only in case of availabilty.

How to apply

Read all the information about the area/s where you intend to apply for accommodation before applying. Make sure that you are eligible to apply for the chosen accommodation area/s.

  • Fill out and submit the on-line application form (see Apply here).
    Make sure to fill out the form correctly. An incorrect application form will not be processed.
    As contact person you should give the name and email address of your supervisor /professor /professor's secretary /student advisor at the inviting institution.
  • We ask that you submit a copy of your letter of invitation/acceptance or other document confirming your affiliation with the Swedish host institution. Send the document by email to application@uac.se.

Limited rental time

The maximum rental time is 1 year. However, often accommodation can only be offered for shorter periods due to limited availablity.

Why is the rental time limited?

UAC is intended as a first place to stay when a researcher/student comes from abroad. If you are going to stay for a longer period you are expected to find other accommodation while staying with UAC.

Important to know - please read before applying

The accommodation is intended for temporary stays only and not for researchers holding permanent positions or having permits of residence.

Applications need to be made no later than six months after arrival in Sweden. If you have been in Sweden more than six months, you are ineligible to apply.

 

UAC is intended as a first place to stay when a researcher/student comes from abroad. If you are going to stay for a longer period you are expected to find other accommodation while staying with UAC.

 

Foreign researchers and foreign students are defined as follows:

Post Doc = accepted to a Post Doc position
Researcher = researcher with a doctoral degree
PhD student= doctoral candidate
Undergraduate student = accepted to a ground level program
Master student = student accepted to a master program
