How long is the waiting time?
The waiting time varies a lot. As our applicants ask for accommodation for a limited time and usually from a certain date, it is difficult to estimate a general waiting time, as it in each case depends on the availability of accommodation and the demand for accommodation during the specific period.
The availability of apartments tend to change quickly. Therefore, we book our apartments only two months ahead in time. Meaning that if you have applied in March for an apartment from October, you will be contacted no earlier than August.
An advice is to turn in the application as soon as possible so that you have a good position in the queue. However, applying early is no guarantee that we will be able to offer accommodation for the requested period.
How are the apartments and rooms furnished?
All our apartments and rooms are furnished. Please read about this at the respective accommodation area under heading For Tenants.
Kitchen equipment?
Information regarding kitchens is given at the respective accommodation area under For Tenants.
Are dogs, cats or other pets allowed?
No pets are allowed in our apartments or rooms.
Where do I pay the rent?
The rent may be paid at the UAC reception, Fogdevreten 2 A, by credit card (visa, master card). You can pay the rent by internet, if you have an internetbank or in cash or by card in stores with payment services via kassagirot. It is also possible to pay at banks, but they charge a quite expensive service fee. For transfers from a bank abroad (which is quite expensive), you need to contact UAC for further information.
UAC does not have OCR-numbers and we need invoice and customer numbers as well as apartment/room number for payments made via Internet or by bank transfer
When do I pay the deposit ?
The deposit will be included in the first monthly rental invoice given to tenants at the time of arrival.
When is the deposit returned?
The deposit will be returned in full after an approved inspection of your room/apartment made after your departure.
Failure in leaving the accommodation in a satisfactory condition or late key return will result in UAC withholding part, or the total amount, of the deposit paid.
Please note that it is your reponsibility to notify UAC about your credit card number or bank account number in order for us to return the deposit.
What happens if I do not pay the rent on time?
Tenants who fail to pay in time will be charged an extra fee of SEK 50. Tenants who repeatedly fail to observe the due dates will be given notice of termination of contract.
What is included in the rent?
The rent includes water, heating and electricity.
How do I find the UAC office?
Please see About UAC
How will the refurbishment affect my stay at Pax?
The change of the sewage pipes will be made in all rooms at Pax during 2009 and 2010. The work in each room is estimated to take about six weeks. During that time you will not have access to your own toilet/shower, but will have to share a toilet/shower with other students in the corridor.
To compensate for the inconvenience, the rent will be reduced for the time when your bathroom is being refurbished.
The refurbishment will produce a lot of noise and dust in the building, and electricity and water will sometimes be shut off daytime for all tenants.
Some tenants may have to change rooms during the renovation.
SSSB, the landlord, is in charge of the refurbishment.
Who can stay at Strix & Pax?
Foreign undergraduate students centrally accepted to an exchange program through the Department of Student Affairs at Karolinska Institutet.
Karolinska Institutet has an exchange agreement with a number of universities, and the students coming within such an agreement has the right to apply for Strix&Pax. You know that you can apply for Strix and Pax if you have received a formal welcome letter from one of the international student advisors at the Department of Student Affairs at Karolinska Institutet. You need to send a copy of that letter to UAC in order to be accepted for a room at Strix&Pax.
